Please find in below a quick summary of Projects AFLK is financing or could finance

- Manufacturing Milk
The manufacturing project works more than well. We work now with Sister Celestine and Sister Jeanne to produce more flour and milk that we can distribute some to mothers referenced by Gaye Amy at Fann Hospital.

- Meningitis affecting more kids at Tambacounda
The hospital has Tambacounda and especially the social service of Khady Gaye since April more and more children sick with meningitis. We hear more and more of an epidemic of meningitis. Unfortunately, some children have become blind.

- Project Safe Motherhood:
Health District Gaspard Kamara located in the city of Dakar, is in the junction of poor suburbs of Niary Tally, Grand Dakar, Fass . Since the opening of the center, the gynecology obstetrics care demand has increased significantly.

INFRASTRUCTURE:
The department of obstetrics and gynecology is composed with:
- Maternity delivery room with four beds
- A work room with five beds for monitoring women in labor
- An hospitalization room for pathological pregnancies with 6 Beds
- A unit layer sequence having two rooms 6 beds each ————–
- An operating room that includes two operating rooms and recovery room with 3 beds.
- An outpatient unit with 2 rooms including one for ultrasound.

PROBLEMS of CARE:
- The management of parturients in emergency is sometimes made difficult by:
the low socio-economic parturients who can not usually afford the kit cesarean cost 45,000 FCFA ( 89 USD ) in emergency, which contains the necessary for intervention. A guarantee scheme was introduced allowing accompanying persons to leave their ID card and half of the amount in exchange of the kit. Even with this system, many are unable to have the kit. This is a real problem for doctors who are often obliged to go to the pharmacist to get a kit at his own expense up to they get the refund.

- Out of equipment and supplies necessary for emergency interventions: linen, instruments, occupied blocks, anesthesia products.
- The absence of a neonatal department (problem spaces)
-The absence of blood bank

The difficulty after cesarean section is for the woman’s husband:
- to pay for the kit (89 USD )
- to pay caesarean surgery at 50 000 CFA francs ( 99 USD )
- drugs from the mother and child
- and days of hospitalization in neonatology 5000 francs per day ( 9 USD )

As a result, mothers are often many more days needed after surgery without treatment for lack of drugs and without their child if it is of neonatology.

What if the husband or mother can’t pay? They separate the baby to the mother up to the bills is paid. The only moment the mother is allowed to see the baby born : to breastfeed.

Those triplets are looking wonderful and they are growing fast.

Today Awa is 5.500 Kgs

Ramatulaye is 5.300 kgs

and the smallest one Adama is 4.900 kgs

Please find the new picture of Gorgui Ndiaye and Marie. The surgery went well. They came today for a weekly control. It might take some time before things back to almost normal.

As Marie was running out of Milk, I also provided 2 bottle of Milk to the baby.

I will ask to Sister Jeanne (Dispensary of Saint Anne) to provide to Marie the milk she is manufacturing.

The baby is doing better. The size head has decreased a lot and visible.The infection is now defeated. The first valve is removed and a new surgery is scheduled between today and  tomorrow.

Bonjour Nicholas,

Je suis de retour à dakar dépuis hier.  Toute la famille à salémata vous salue et vous remercie .J’ai passé des bons moments à salémata mais ce qui m’a marqué de plus,c’est le fait d’avoir participé pour la première fois à un scrutin présidentiel.

Toutefois nous avons repris les cours à l’université avec une allure intense car aujourd’hui même j’ai fait un cours d’electrophysiologie cellulaire dans lequel nous avions fait deux chapitres en deux heures de temps.Donc il nous faut une concentration énorme et une organisation trés méthodique dans le travail pour pouvoir s’en sortir.Mais je m’inquiéte pas car je sais,je peux m’en sortir!
